We are at last well and truly settled in our new premises and have been adding little personal touches here and there to make the place ‘our own’. It is certainly a great relief that we no longer have to contend with the sound of herds of elephants above our heads while seeing clients!
As everyone is aware Marijke left the Centre at the end of January. We were all very sad to see her go and wish her every success in the future.
There will be a few changes taking place in the coming weeks and we shall keep everyone informed of them by holding regular meetings between staff and volunteers.
We would like all volunteers to know that Janette and Dawn are just at the end of a telephone if anyone ever wants to talk about any aspect of their support work, we shall also be setting aside time for supervision.
Thankfully we seem to have got the heating sorted out and now the storage heaters are working at optimum level, so it is warmer on all levels (except the ladies loo)!
We have a new Administrator joining us soon her name is Clare Smith I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we welcome her to the Centre and we are looking forward to working together with her very much.
If you are in the Centre during the day you will have noticed that the parking situation at the back is not easy. We have 2 spaces that are ours but we cannot always get into them. We have a friendly agreement with the neighbours on both sides that we can effectively leave a car in the middle and IF anyone needs to get out they will ask for the cars to be moved. This has worked very well so far and all on an amicable basis.
Lighthouse Run
The 2nd Lighthouse Run took place on Sunday 17th February. The winner came in at 50mins 34 secs, 2nd at 51mins 17 secs and 3rd at 51mins 21 secs. We had ‘Spiderman’ running (in 3rd place) and a ‘Mr. Magnificent’ who made it in a little over 75 mins. For the second year running we were blessed with beautiful weather, a frosty morning which soon thawed out in the warm Spring sunshine. A great big THANKYOU goes out to all who participated in the run/walk and everyone who helped to make the day a success.
Next year’s Funrun will be held on Sunday 16th February, 2009. We have already started the planning of it and anticipate a much larger turnout. Towards the end of the year we shall be asking for as many people as possible to help out in any way they can. There are many different ways to help out so the more the merrier. We shall also ask for local press coverage to make it a higher profile event to try and get more people involved.
Charity Collection Boxes
Can you suggest a shop/restaurant or pub/bar that would support the NRICC by having one of our collection boxes on show for people to donate their change? The box will be emptied regularly and a thank you letter is sent out with a running total for customers to see clearly how much they have contributed to our cause.
Have you got any suggestions on how we can raise more funds? We are always open to fresh ideas and offers of help in this. Also we need people who are willing to help out in fundraising events.
We are thinking of going to one of the large Supermarkets to help shoppers pack their bags at the checkouts for a donation. This has worked well for other charities and it should also be successful for us. Please let us know if you are able to spare a couple of hours on a Saturday.
New and Exciting Things to Come
We are doing a couple of Outreach Projects at the moment. Janette is trying to expand our service by taking it out to GP surgeries and doing presentations about what we do here. Surprisingly, not many people in Northamptonshire are actually aware of the services we can offer even though we have been operating since 1985. This was partly due to the fact that the fonder of the NRICC was opposed to any form of publicity feeling that it was better to keep it very low key which suited the strict confidentiality policy which exists today. The conflicting thoughts here were that if we continued to keep the Centre quiet then we were failing potential clients because they may not hear about it and then get lost in the system. Dawn is working to take our services to minority groups who might not otherwise be able to benefit from our services.
Volunteers and volunteering
We are currently having a volunteer recruitment campaign. The criteria for all volunteers is to have at least 3 hours a week to devote to Centre work, between the hours of 09.30 and 21.00, possible weekends but rarely. Minimum educational requirement is Level 1 Counselling Certificate. An extremely high standard of confidentiality is expected of anybody working in any capacity at NRICC as we routinely deal with highly personal and sensitive material on a daily basis. If you know of anyone who fits the bill and would like to become a volunteer please ask them to contact either Janette or Dawn on the Centre Number 01604 250721. All volunteers will be trained before doing any support work. Volunteers are also free to contact Janette and Dawn if they ever want to talk or have any worries at all at anytime.
The Healing Art of Rita Lloyd

We have been very fortunate in being contacted by American Psychologist and Artist Rita Lloyd she has given us permission to use some of her pictures to help our clients on their paths to healing.
This form of therapy has proved very useful in helping clients to talk and start to get in touch with their feelings which had previously been too difficult for them.
We are immensely grateful to her for her support.
Your contributions please
We want to produce this Newsletter quarterly and would be grateful for any contributions anyone may have for the next one. Deadline will be end of May.
