Emotional Abuse

Alongside sexual abuse is the effect that is caused psychologically and this is termed as emotional abuse. Emotional abuse can also be inflicted without any form of physical abuse.

Very often the effects of emotional abuse are minimalised or discounted because there are no bruises, cuts or abrasions to be seen. The fact that it is psychological and emotional wounding in nature allows it to continue as the 'invisible' abuse, unnoticed and mostly ignored. However, the trauma, pain and suffering are no less intense and the scars are just as deep.

Physical abuse attacks the body and naturally results in psychological injury, emotional abuse attacks the very core of the being, confidence, worth, esteem, faith, beliefs, and values to name but a few.

Though it remains like most abuse, largely unseen/unrecognised, it is no less devastating and has far reaching, debilitating effects ultimately causing depression and preventing the abused person from fulfilling their true potential in life.
