Poems

To anyone out there who has been sexually abused

Those of you who feel empty, dirty and used

I want you to know that there are ways to come out alive

You have one very important skill, you know how to survive

You’ve been shown a side to life that no one should be forced to see

Your identity has been hindered, and you don’t know who to be

Fear clouds your vision and shame silences your voice’s song

Until the day you accept the fact that you have done nothing wrong

The abusers did the deed, they committed the crime

You should shout that aloud, time after time

Until you know it in your heart, and feel it in your soul

Until the day you find a way to fill that empty hole

I know that it’s hard and I know that you feel all alone

It’s because you’ve never been here before, but it is this you should have been shown

A time to focus on you, like no one ever did

At time to feel important, to remember that little kid

You deserve to take back what is yours, give your abuser your guilt and shame

It’s only appropriate, it’s an even exchange

Allow yourself to feel what your abuser robbed you from

Whatever you always wanted to be, allow yourself to become

Take the power out of your abusers hands; rip his control from your mind

And ask God to press rewind

Then look at the little child, and tell her or him that they’re free

Then come back to today and say, THE REST OF MY LIFE IS FOR ME!
